Duncan MacGillivray

He is a specialist in business insurance programs, including risk management analysis and assessment. His principal business market segments, from start-up to middle market, includes aviation- aerospace / commercial space, manufacturers and fabricators, professional services firms, and high technology.

Mr. MacGillivray’s most rewarding, and memorable career experience was his involvement as the insurance broker for Voyager Aircraft, Inc. and the flight of “Voyager”, the aircraft that flew around the world, non-stop, non-refueled, in December 1986, setting a new international world-record flight. He still maintains a close personal and business relationship with Dick Rutan, Mojave Air & Space Port and other individuals and businesses associated with or involved in this historic aerospace project. His specialty in aerospace insurance began with his involvement with Mojave Air & Space Port when they were organized as a Civilian Flight Test Center in the late 1970’s. Mr. MacGillivray now works with many prominent individuals and company pioneers in the Commercial Space Industry’.

Upon graduation from the University of New Mexico and its Navy ROTC Program, Mr. MacGillivray was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. A Navy trained pilot, he holds a Commercial Pilot License with Multi-Engine / Instrument rating. As a Vietnam Veteran, he served in the Western Pacific as a Surface Warfare Officer on the USS Eldorado, LCC-11, Amphibious Force Command Ship. Mr. MacGillivray received his Honorable Discharge from the Naval Reserve in 1992 as a Lieutenant Commander. 

 

His last duty station was, U.S. Navy Reserve Amphibious Beach Master Group (NBG 1), NAB, Coronado, California. He a past Commander and Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3208, Sierra Madre, California. He has helped U.S. Veterans with health issues, especially traumatic brain injury and PTSD, by leading the way in helping set-up a special, long-term, Veterans Medical Research Program with Huntington Medical Research Institute in Pasadena serving Veterans in the greater Los Angeles County area.

Mr. MacGillivray is the Grandson of a Northern New Mexico Scottish Highlander immigrant, Allan I. His father, Allan II, was a WW II USAAF Captain assigned to the Military Contingent of the Los Alamos Manhattan Project; Great Uncle Duncan served in New Mexico’s Territorial and first State Legislature in 1912 with Conrad Hilton of Hilton Hotels. He is a native of Santa Fe, New Mexico and resides in Sierra Madre, California with his wife, former Mayor and Councilwoman MaryAnn and their four adult children. A USC Trojan family, and his son Mike, a former record-setting punter on the Trojan football team and member of the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors, works alongside Mr. MacGillivray as an Account Executive on his team at SMMA. Mr. MacGillivray is an Honorary Life Member of Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, a former Boy Scouts of America adult leader and has served on the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
As a chapter leader for Brigitte Gabriel’s ACT for America, nation’s largest non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots national security organization, Mr. MacGillivray is involved in recruiting, educating, engaging, training, and mobilizing citizens and elected officials to recognize and help prevent terrorism in the United States while preserving civil liberties protected by the United States Constitution.
Following active-duty service as a U.S. Naval Officer, Mr. MacGillivray joined the firm of Rowan-Wilson, Inc / R.A. Rowan & Co. of Los Angeles and Pasadena, CA, as an account executive. He has over 40 years’ experience as a licensed Property & Casualty Insurance Agent/Broker; he has also worked with Johnson & Higgins of Texas, Corroon & Black of California, and Willis Corroon. As member of the Exceptional Producer Council at Corroon & Black, Mr. MacGillivray organized and managed the Special Business Accounts and Aviation Insurance Divisions.
